In the village of Aigonnay, France, while a council debated giving a farm track its first road name, someone pointed out: "this is a route, not a rue."

On the evening of 16 December 2025, at a meeting opened at 8.41 p.m., the council of Aigondigné, in the Deux-Sèvres department of western France, debated giving a road name to a place called "Chanteloup," in the Aigonnay district that forms part of the commune.

The original proposal was "Rue de Chanteloup" — Chanteloup Street.

But during the session a point was raised: the existing road just upstream of it is called not a "rue" but a "route."

The name was accordingly changed to "Route de Chanteloup," and the road, running from communal way No. 8 to communal way No. 12, was so named by the unanimous vote of the members present. The chair was the mayor, Patricia Rouxel. Of the council's twenty-two members, nineteen were present and two held by proxy, so that twenty-one took part in the vote.
