25 January 2026 — The council of Ruhnu, one of Estonia's smallest inhabited islands, in the Baltic Sea, chooses a new mayor by secret ballot and sets the monthly salary at 2,700 euros.

The mayor also serves as the island's culture coordinator, for which an extra 800 euros a month is added.

On 25 January 2026 the council of Ruhnu — one of the smallest inhabited islands in Estonia, in the Gulf of Riga in the Baltic Sea — chose Maret Parnamets as its new mayor by secret ballot.

The mayor's salary is 2,700 euros a month, taking effect the next day, 26 January. In addition, for also serving as the island's culture coordinator, an allowance of 800 euros a month was set, running to the end of 2026.

Ruhnu belongs to Parnu County and lies about ninety kilometres out to sea west of the city of Parnu. About a hundred people live there.
