The village of Gozecik in the Divrigi district of Sivas Province, central Turkey, had for years been mixed up with other settlements bearing the same name, causing problems ranging from misdirected parcel deliveries to confusion in official paperwork and directions.

Residents seeking to end the confusion filed a request for a name change, which was brought before the Sivas Provincial General Assembly. Relevant committees reviewed the matter in detail and a report was prepared for assembly members.

Following a vote, the assembly unanimously approved changing the village's name from Gozecik to Puruonu. With the decision, the name was updated in official records.

Residents expressed relief at the resolution of a naming confusion that had persisted for years, and the change is expected to considerably ease administrative and social affairs in the area.
