ガーナのビッグ・アダで、アダ伝統評議会が祭りの準備の神聖さを守るため、7月20日から8月17日まで管轄区域内のすべての葬儀活動を禁止すると発表した。

In Big Ada, in Ghana's Greater Accra Region, the Ada Traditional Council announced preparations for the 89th Asafotufiami festival, held annually by the people of Ada to commemorate the victories of their warrior ancestors and honour their heritage.

The 89th edition is scheduled to begin on August 7, 2026. The council said this year's celebration would place greater emphasis on traditional rites, with some activities adjusted ahead of the 90th anniversary in 2027. The Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Jetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, ascended the stool in 1977 and marks his 50th year on the throne this year.

Asafoatsengua Osraman Gadugah VI of the Dangmebiawe Clan disclosed that the council would ban all funeral activities within the Ada Traditional Area from July 20 to August 17, 2026, as part of preparations for the festival and the traditional cleansing of the area.

"The ban is necessary to ensure full participation in the traditional rites and to preserve the sanctity of the festival period," he said. The announcement was attended by several traditional leaders.
