2026年6月3日午前0時35分ごろ、山口県下関市内のコンビニエンスストアを訪れた客が、トイレの個室内のフックにベルトとホルスターが掛かっているのを見つけた。ホルスターの中には拳銃が入っていた。
下関市は本州の最西端に位置する港湾都市で、人口は約25万人。コンビニで警察官が当直中にトイレを利用することは、近年各県で運用が認められてきた。拳銃は山口県警の当直警察官のもので、発見の約40分前に同店を利用していたことが確認された。
客は店員に伝え、店員が警察に連絡した。当該警察官は忘れた事実を認めた。山口県警は全警察官に対し、場所を移る際には必ず拳銃の所持を確認するよう改めて指導すると発表した。
At around 12:35 a.m. on June 3, 2026, a customer at a convenience store in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, entered a restroom stall and found a belt and holster hanging from a hook. The holster contained a pistol.
Shimonoseki is a port city of roughly 250,000 people at the westernmost tip of Honshu. Officers in many prefectures have been permitted to use convenience stores while on duty in recent years. The gun belonged to an on-duty officer of the Yamaguchi Prefectural Police, who had visited the store about 40 minutes before the customer's discovery.
The customer told the store staff, who contacted the police. The officer admitted to having left the weapon behind. The Yamaguchi Prefectural Police announced it would remind all officers to confirm they have their firearm whenever they move to a new location.
