ザンビア西部州ナロロ地区のマンデ小学校で、設立から40年を経て初めての恒久的な教室棟の着工式が行われた。同校では366人の生徒が、泥の柱で支えられた老朽化した建物で学んできた。
ナロロ地区は西部州に位置し、ザンベジ川の氾濫原に近い農村地帯にある。インフラ整備の遅れは同地域に共通する課題で、地域開発基金を使った学校整備が各地で進められている。
新しい教室棟の建設は地域開発基金を財源とし、地元の議員が着工式に出席した。完成後は、これまでの仮設的な建物に代わる耐久性のある学習環境が整う見通し。
Mande Primary School in Nalolo District, Western Province of Zambia, held a groundbreaking ceremony for its first permanent classroom block, forty years after the school was established. Its 366 pupils had been studying in an ageing building supported by mud poles.
Nalolo District lies in the Western Province near the Zambezi floodplain, a rural area where infrastructure has lagged. Construction of school buildings funded through the Constituency Development Fund has been under way across the district.
The new classroom block is financed through the development fund, and local representatives attended the groundbreaking. Once completed, the structure is expected to replace the temporary buildings with a durable learning environment.
