São Paulo's city council enacted an ordinance adding a day to raise awareness against motorcycle wheelies, known as 'grau,' to the city's official calendar.

The city of São Paulo, Brazil, promulgated Lei 18.473 on 1 June 2026, adding a commemorative day for awareness against the practice of grau, or motorcycle wheelies, to the city's official events calendar. It amends the existing law governing the city's calendar.

Grau means riding a motorcycle on its rear wheel only while in motion; performing it on public roads is a traffic offence under Brazilian law. The city council had also been considering a separate bill to add a Motorcycle Accident Prevention Week to the calendar.

The ordinance is purely administrative and introduces no new penalties. By placing the day on the official calendar, it gives city agencies, schools and community groups a formal basis for awareness activities.
