暫定の校長は「呆然とした」「手すりは100年前からあり、知る限り事故は一度もなかった」「ホームセンターで安く直せたはずだ」と話した。ある児童は「いつも誰かに見られている気がする」と言う。
警備の費用は、週におよそ13,700ユーロ。校長は「これがうちの年間予算だ」と話した。手すりが直されるまで、あと二週間から四週間続く見込みだという。
At the Frauenhof primary school in the Niederrad district of Frankfurt, a stair railing was found to be too low.
The state school-building guideline requires railings and barriers to be at least 1.1 metres. This school's railing was 1.03 metres, seven centimetres short. The building office measured it and found out.
The authorities first asked the head whether she could keep watch herself, but when she declined, they sent security guards.
As a result, twelve guards were posted on the school stairs to make sure no child fell. The guards sit on children's chairs to keep watch.
The acting head said she was 'stunned,' that 'the railing has been there for a hundred years and there has, as far as I know, never been an accident,' and that 'it could have been fixed cheaply at a hardware store.' One pupil says she feels she is always being watched.
The cost of the guarding is about 13,700 euros a week. 'That is our annual budget,' the head said. It is expected to continue for another two to four weeks, until the railing is fixed.
