July 11, 2026 — One tree produced a 72kg jackfruit that might just beat the world record

A Karnataka farmer's giant jackfruit steals the show at a local fair

🇮🇳 Hebbanahalli village, Sakleshpur, Karnataka, India

At a local Jackfruit and Mango Fair in Sakleshpur, Karnataka, southern India, a 72kg jackfruit stole the show on July 11. It was grown by farmer H B Pratap Kumar, from a tree his father Basavalingappa planted 23 years ago. This season alone, the same tree produced around 15 fruits in the 60-80kg range. B E Bhanu Prakash, a senior official at the local horticulture department, explained that commercially grown jackfruit usually weighs 20-25kg, making fruit in the 60-80kg range extremely rare. The current recognized world record is 54.43kg, set in Florida, USA, in 2024 — meaning this 72kg specimen could set a new record if verified. The tree is grown using natural farming methods without chemical fertilizer.
