In the town of Manthali, in Ramechhap district of Nepal's Bagmati Province, a lift drinking-water scheme meant to supply about 2,400 households — in Salu in ward 4 and Sunarpani in ward 5 — has stalled. A local English-language paper reported it on 21 September 2025.

The scheme began in June 2021 and was first due to be finished in June 2024. The deadline was extended to 17 October 2025, but at the time of the report the work was only about half done. The contractor is the Sharma-Sagoon JV, and the total budget is 316.1 million rupees.

To speed the work, local residents had contributed seven million rupees of their own. Meanwhile the iron pipe laid across the Suka-Jor stream was said to have already rusted and to be of substandard quality. Manthali lies about a hundred kilometres north-east of the capital, Kathmandu, on the Tamakoshi river.
