パラグアイ・ミシオネス県サンタロサで、サンホセ地区の住民が自宅に野生動物がいると通報したのを受け、地元の消防ボランティア隊が出動し、カワウソ1頭を捕獲した。
現場に到着した隊員たちは、通報された動物がカワウソであることを確認した。サンタロサ消防ボランティア隊の隊長フアン・エリエル・サリナス氏によると、同じ地域で数週間の間にカワウソが見つかったのはこれで2度目だという。
隊員たちは動物を確保し、健康状態に問題がないことを確認した上で、地域を流れるサングリ小川に放した。この小川にはすでにカワウソやカモといった野生動物が多様に生息しているという。
サリナス隊長は住民に対し、意識を持ってこうした動物を悩ませたり狩ったりしないよう呼びかけ、「家族や子どもたちがこの生物多様性を楽しめる、命にあふれた場所であってほしい」と述べた。
In Santa Rosa, in Paraguay's Misiones department, members of the local volunteer fire department responded after a resident of the San Jose neighbourhood reported a wild animal in her home.
On arrival, rescuers confirmed the animal was an otter. According to Captain Juan Eliel Salinas, commander of the Santa Rosa Volunteer Fire Department, this was the second otter to appear in the area within the span of a few weeks.
After securing the animal and confirming it was in good health, the volunteers released it into the arroyo Sanguri, a local stream already home to a variety of wildlife, including otters and wild ducklings.
Captain Salinas asked residents to be mindful and avoid disturbing or hunting the animals, saying, "We want this to be a place full of life, where families and children can come enjoy this biodiversity."
