ドイツ・ヘッセン州メルフェルデン=ヴァルドルフ、ヘッセン州で2番目に広い自然保護区メンヒブルフの小川で、通行人が大型の金庫3個を見つけた。近くには現金箱、スーツケース、書類かばんもあったが、いずれも中身は空だった。
金庫は頑丈な「装甲金庫」タイプで、回収にはリュッセルスハイム消防隊がウインチを使う必要があった。記事執筆時点で金庫はまだ開けられておらず、中に何が入っているかは分かっていない。
警察はいつからそこにあったのか、どうやって運ばれたのかも特定できていない。盗難品を捨てた可能性、単に不要な金属くずとして自然保護区に放置した可能性の両方を視野に、金庫の盗難や強盗事件について周辺地域への照会を進めている。
A passerby found three large safes in a stream inside the Mönchbruch nature reserve — Hesse's second-largest protected area — in Mörfelden-Walldorf, Germany. Nearby lay a cash box, a suitcase, and a briefcase, all of them empty.
The safes are heavy, reinforced steel models, and the fire department in nearby Rüsselsheim needed a cable winch to pull them out of the water. As of this report, none of the three had been opened, so what, if anything, is inside remains unknown.
Police have not determined how long the safes had been sitting in the stream, or how they got there. They are investigating two possibilities — that they were dumped after a theft, or simply discarded as scrap metal — and are checking the case against reports of safe thefts and robberies in the surrounding region.
