In the south Indian village of Gummatapura, villagers again spend a day flinging cow dung at one another.

In the south Indian village of Gummatapura, on 24 October 2025, villagers flung cow dung at one another and smeared it on their bodies, in a festival called Gorehabba — a local rite marking the end of Diwali, the festival of lights.

The faithful believe their guardian deity, Beereshwara Swamy, was born in cow dung; in Hinduism, cow dung is held to be sacred and purifying.

Dozens took part.
