A village headman election in Bandwara, India, ends in a 138-138 tie and is decided by the toss of a coin.

In the village of Bandwara, in Dasoli block of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India, the final count in the village-headman (gram pradhan) election came out at 138 votes each.

Under the state election commission's rules, a tie is settled by tossing a coin. On the toss, Nitin Negi, aged twenty-three, beat his rival Ravindra.

In the same election, the neighbouring village of Gram Kandi, in Rudraprayag district, also tied — at 168 votes each — and was decided by drawing slips. Chamoli district lies in the hills south of the Himalayas.
