June 2026 — On his 57th birthday, the governor of Chonburi Province, Thailand, bought two cows from a slaughterhouse for 25,000 baht each and gave them to farmers.

The gesture continues a royal cattle-and-buffalo initiative begun by King Rama IX in 1979.

🇹🇭 Chonburi Province, Thailand

The governor of Chonburi Province, Thailand, identified as Naris, bought two cows from a slaughterhouse at 25,000 baht each, 50,000 baht in total, on his 57th birthday and gave them through the Department of Livestock Development to needy farmers in Phanom Nikhom District. The birthday was reported as 18 June 2026.

Chonburi Province lies southeast of Bangkok along the Gulf of Thailand. The governor was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Suphinya, head of the provincial Red Cross chapter. The two animals are to be raised for breeding and long-term income rather than slaughter.

The act continues the Cattle and Buffalo Project begun by King Rama IX in 1979, a royal initiative to redirect animals away from slaughterhouses and toward farmers as productive assets, supporting rural livelihoods and breeding stability.
