In Kaoma District, Zambia, preparations are under way for the Nkoya royal ceremony Kazanga, set for July.

The Nkoya Royal Establishment has confirmed that the Kazanga traditional ceremony will be held in Kaoma District, Western Province of Zambia, in July 2026. The exact date is to be set by the organising committee, and the senior chief has appealed to well-wishers for contributions.

Kaoma District lies in the heart of the Western Province along the Zambezi basin. Kazanga, revived in 1988, is an annual ceremony that combines first-fruits thanksgiving to God and the ancestors with commemorations of warriors and hunters who killed lions and leopards.

Kazanga is considered the largest cultural festival of the Nkoya-speaking people and draws participants from across the region. It appears on the Zambia Tourism Authority's calendar of traditional ceremonies and is recognised as a regional cultural draw.
