March 16, 2026 — It took him 139 attempts over 9 years to pass the written driving test

A record-setting learner driver in southern Poland finally cleared the theory exam

🇵🇱 Tarnów, Lesser Poland, Poland

At the Lesser Poland Transport Center in Tarnów, southern Poland, a man finally passed the written portion of his driving test on his 139th attempt, a streak that began in 2017 and lasted roughly nine years. According to center director Paweł Grygiel, part of the struggle was that the man initially studied only with a demo version of test software rather than the full official materials. Once he switched to the complete program covering every possible question, his scores gradually improved until he finally passed. He has not yet passed the practical driving test, so getting his license is still ahead of him. Grygiel also dismissed local urban legends claiming that failing 13 times earns you a free bicycle or a free retest, saying no such perks exist. The record was reported by local radio station RDN Małopolska.
