June 10, 2026 — A road runs beneath the village meeting hall.

With no suitable land, a Turkish village built its meeting hall on pillars over the road — one of only two such buildings in the country.

🇹🇷 Eski Bahcekaya, Inegol, Bursa Province, Turkey

In the Eski Bahcekaya neighborhood of Inegol district, in Bursa Province in northwestern Turkey, stands a village meeting hall (mahalle konagi) with a road running beneath it. It was built in 1978. No suitable plot could be found within the village, so it was raised on reinforced-concrete pillars to span the road. The road below connects Eski Bahcekaya with the neighboring Tahtakopru neighborhood. According to the neighborhood head, Hayat Nuri Aslan, only two buildings of this kind exist in Turkey; the other is in Rize Province. The hall has been renovated and used for about 48 years, and it is still where residents gather. Visitors from the nearby hot-spring resort of Oylat come to take photographs and drink tea. The local paper Inegol Online reported it on June 10.
