ブラジル南部サンタカタリーナ州の内陸の街ヴィデイラで、6月21日、中心部のサウル・ブランダリーゼ通りにカピバラが現れた。通行人や商店主が驚いて見守る中を走り抜け、コンピューター店に入り込み、やがて自分で出て行った。その様子を撮った動画がSNSで広まった。州の軍消防隊は「攻撃的でなく、負傷しておらず、差し迫った危険が無ければ、落ち着いて自力で自然に帰らせてほしい」と呼びかけた。緊急通報は、動物が負傷している・閉じ込められている・攻撃的な場合に限るよう案内された。けが人も被害も無かった。カピバラは川や緑地の近くに普通に生息し、餌や水を求めて市街地を横切ることがあるという。地元メディアPortal RBVが6月21日に報じた。
In Videira, an inland town in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, a capybara appeared on June 21 on Rua Saul Brandalise, in the town centre. It ran past startled passers-by and shopkeepers, made its way into a computer shop, and eventually left on its own. Video of the scene spread on social media. The state military fire brigade asked residents to stay calm and let such animals return to the wild by themselves as long as they are not aggressive, not injured, and not in immediate danger. Emergency calls, it advised, should be limited to animals that are injured, trapped, or aggressive. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged. Capybaras commonly live near rivers and green areas, and sometimes cross built-up areas in search of food and water. The local outlet Portal RBV reported it on June 21.
